Continuing a Balanced Bilingual Pathway
In Year 8, students continue their education in an environment where French and English are both used as languages of instruction, at a 50% / 50% balance. This organisation maintains balanced exposure to both linguistic systems while progressively strengthening students’ academic proficiency in both languages. Students do not simply learn English or French as foreign languages. They use both languages to learn, research, solve problems, present their ideas and work on projects. This immersion contributes to developing a genuine ability to study and communicate effectively in both educational environments.
Deepening Knowledge and Developing Reasoning Skills
Learning gradually becomes more complex and requires greater analysis, reflection and independence. In both French and English, students work with increasingly demanding texts, develop their written and oral expression, solve problems and apply their knowledge in different situations. Research activities, interdisciplinary projects, collaborative work and presentations allow students to develop critical thinking, creativity and the ability to construct and defend ideas. The objective is to progressively move students from being learners who simply receive knowledge to becoming learners who are able to use, question and apply knowledge.
Preparing for the Choice of Educational Pathway
Year 8 plays a particularly important role in shaping the student’s future educational pathway. During this year, the school works with families to reflect on the student’s educational project: whether the student wishes to continue primarily within a French-speaking curriculum or move towards an English-speaking and Cambridge pathway. This choice does not represent a break from the initial bilingual pathway. Instead, it is a progressive evolution that gives greater weight to the language and educational system corresponding to the student’s intended pathway. At the end of Year 8, this educational project helps prepare the organisation of Year 9 and the stages that follow.
